In this last month, I spent several hours every week, which serves as a volunteer in the protective house in the city of Iowa. It was a very interesting experience and I feel like I have learned a lot. I hope I can bring everything into words.
I thought I would spend most of my time with the kids, but it turned out that they normally had something else that had something else that had to be done. The upper elementary students will understand that their home life is different and probably will experience the same shame that their parents feel. As a teacher, I want these students to know that they can talk to me without being able to be ashamed. The school must be a secure and consistent place because your home is probably not.
The interesting thing is that hearing, the ability I used most in the shelter, a skill that I need to continue to develop as a teacher. All children as well as their parents need to know that their teacher really listen to them and try to understand. It is easy to jump with very low information about conclusions. It is much harder to really listen and try to understand another point of view.
One of the other things I saw in the shelter was the real love that parents had for their children. I knew that homeless parents no longer loved their children than parents who were unreadless, but this knowledge has a difficult time, which counteracts the social view of ¡¥ homeless as a lazy man who does not care about everything ¡| We are all indoctrinated. The parents were tired, but they wanted to be involved. Circumstances that go beyond their control often often made the commitment almost impossible. In my classroom, I would like to promote the participation of the parents because I think it leads to better learning for their children, but I have to realize that some parents who can not participate can not participate rather than not ready to take..

The people I met has made me the problem of homelessness.
